While most scientists consider the physics behind the sci-fi styled EmDrive ‘impossible’,┬áthe electromagnetic propulsion engine by NASA has been getting alot off buzz this year, with excitement over it being a possible successor for future space exploration engines.

German scientist Martin Tajmar, who is an expert in debunking ‘impossible’ propulsion theories, claims he has tested the device – and actually believes it works.

“Our measurements reveal thrusts as expected from previous claims after carefully studying thermal and electromagnetic interferences,” he said. “If true, this could certainly revolutionise space travel.”

The theory of EmDrive is that it allegedly works by converting electrical power in to thrust without the need of a propellant, through a process which many scientists argue is a direct violation of physics as we know it.

“My insight is that the EMDrive is complete crap and a waste of time,” said physicist Sean Carroll. “I’m going to spend my time thinking about ideas that don’t violate conservation of momentum.”

Despite its critics, however, initial looks seem to verify it works, which will completely revolutionise space travel as we know it – with EmDrive it is suggested we could reach the moon within 4 hours, and Pluto in 18 months.
