Secret Nazi Base Discovered In Arctic By Russian Scientists

The newly discovered site is located around 1,000km from the North Pole on the island of Alexandra Land, and was built in 1942, a year after Hitler invaded Russia.

The site was codenamed ‘Schatzgraber’ which means ‘Treasure Hunter’ by the Germans, and the base was primarily used as a tactical weather station.

It is believed that the base was abandoned when scientists stationed at the base were poisoned by infected polar bear meat in 1944 and having to be rescued from the facility.

Now 72 years later, more than 500 objects have been found at the site, many of which were in exceptionally good condition thanks to preservation due to the cold weather.

Russia is now looking to build it’s own permanent military base there today.
