Since 2008, the numbers of 2 headed sharks being discovered worldwide has been increasing.
Still a mystery as to why this is happening, some are suggesting it is a mutation due to genetic abnormalities from over fishing. The first one caught back in 2008 was by Christian Johnson, who caught a 2 headed blue shark off the coast of Australia.
Blue sharks so far have produced the most 2 headed offspring, however other species have also been found such as bull sharks and an atlantic sawtail catshark embryo which was pulled in by Spanish researchers. One of the researchers spotted the 2 headed fetus through the clear skin of the egg.
The catfish embryo is the first example discovered from a oviparous shark species – sharks that lay eggs.
