As NASA’s Dawn Spacecraft continues its flyover and continues to send back amazing imagery of Pluto to Earth, the science team at NASA have been kept extremely busy trying to work out all the amazing features of the beautiful rock.
The latest discoveries revealed are an incredible blue atmospheric haze, very similar to what we see here on our Earth.
“Who would have expected a blue sky in the Kuiper Belt? It’s gorgeous,” said NASA’s Alan Stern.
In another incredible find, scientists believe they have found areas of exposed water ice on the surface of Pluto. What is even more interesting is that some of the red parts of the surface seen in the imagery are areas where the exposed ice seems to be evident.
“Large expanses of Pluto don’t show exposed water ice because it’s apparently masked by other, more volatile ices across most of the planet,” said science team member Jason Cook. “Understanding why water appears exactly where it does, and not in other places, is a challenge that we are digging into.”
