Named Homo Naledi, the newly discovered species now represents another link in the human evolutionary chain, and is recognised as one of the most significant paleontological discoveries in recent times.
The discovery was made by Steven Tucker and Rick Hunter, found buried in a hidden chamber deep in a cave named the Rising Star, known as a destination for cavers.
The chambers housed remains of at least 15 individual specimens, possibly used as a burial site by the prehistoric people.
