The unmanned craft launched but blew up only minutes after take off, with the incredible video showing the rocket almost disintegrating mid air.
In a blow to the space industry, it’s the third accident in the past year involving US and Russian supply ships scheduled to deliver goods to the ISS, raising concerns about the steady flow of food and water to the space station.
It was the seventh cargo mission launched by SpaceX so far, however a little over 2 minutes into the flight, SpaceX lost contact with the craft. Live video showed smoke coming out of the rocket, and then only tiny fragments of the rocket were left to fall out of the blue sky.
‘Falcon 9 experienced a problem shortly before first stage shutdown. Will provide more info as soon as we review the data.’ Elon Musk tweeted earlier. ‘There was an overpressure event in the upper stage liquid oxygen tank. Data suggests counterintuitive cause.’
